cub would not run. began checking. 1 points, coil wire, etc etc. came down it had to be rotor button or distributor cap. the little towers on the
distributor cap were corroded bad. really bad. i tore off a strip of emery cloth, rolled it up and cleaned the inside of them. tractor started. do
you have a slick trick for cleaning the contacts (where the spark plug wires plug in) inside the distributor cap.
 
Emory cloth or sandpaper do the job of cleaning the contacts - and that's what a lot of people use - but, particles of the grit can imbed in the surface of the contacts where they will act as insulators. The tool Gene mentioned eliminates this problem. Simple ignition tool kits always include a small file for cleaning the contacts.
