?'s about rebuilding a bd144 engine

gonna have to rebuild the engine in my 354 pretty soon, should i have the crank worked or buy a new one? $260 for a aftermarket one.

also how about the liners? i think they are dry, i have done wet ones but i think the dry ones are a lot harder to get in and out. is that something i could do or have to be a engine shop pressing them out and in?

If that crank is the original one and never been ground, I would see what the cost was to do all the journals, mains and throws. You can tell if its been ground before because it will be marked(stamped) on one of the weights. If it were mine and had never been ground I would use the original. On some of the "after market ones" the journals have been welded up and then reground. When Imoon lighted at a machine shop we were always careful to the explain off of this to the crank owner.
As to the dry liners, these can be pressed out or a small bead of weld can be put on them and they will split making it easier to remove.
