U6 power unit with clutch and drive pulley attachment. Clutch is IN/OUT over center. (I had a manual for an M that included it. Used for saw mills and other medium HP stationary equip) It was also sold to Gallion and other road grader makers for power. Basically an M engine. Jim

The owner checked with a magnifying glass and
there is a B after the C.
On the lower right side there is a rod that goes
into the oil pan. It is in front of the dipstick
and pulls up against a spring.
Any idea what that is.
He is curious what tractor this engine would have
been used in. It is larger than an M. He's thinking
W9.
Thanks

Looks to be a U-9 Power Unit. Same engine was used in the W9 and WR9 wheel tractors. The power unit you show was designed to run on either distillate or kerosene as evidenced by the small(less than one gallon) starting tank for gasoline you will find under the cap on the front left hand side of the hood. After warming up, it would be switched over to the cheaper fuel fed from a remote tank somewhere close by. It can be run on gasoline nowdays; but you will need a big tank for it. The piece you asked about on the side of the oil pan is to drain off daily the fuel that dilutes the oil. Then you add oil to bring it up to full. Hope this info helps; looks like it is in good shape. Could you do me a favor? What is the diameter of the belt pulley? And secondly, will you post a couple of close up pictures of the pulley, both from the end and also the side where it looks to be bolted together. Thanks.

It is a U 9. Looked at my brothers I9 (pictures i took) and the two tappet covers are clearly defining. Jim
