Farmall H help

Mlcase

New User
Hi all!

I've had this 41 H for years now. I'm just getting to all the oil leaks and tighting things up when i came across a broken transmission case. The broken piece is not in the trans so it could have happened a long time ago. Ive used it with no problems, the only reason I now about it is through visual inspection. I don't know what to do now? Should I leave it be or find a new case? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I uploaded a photo of the broken bearing retainer

With top already off, think I would replace the differential bearing carrier bull pinion housing. Someone probably tried to remove housing without moving the bull gear out of the way.
Can't argue with doing okay after 41 years though.

Thanks for the reply! I just looked through my parts manuel then jumped on the EBAY ones on its way!

Those teeth on the bull gear look worn to me. look at the non drive side of a sample of teeth and compare them to the driven side visible in the picture. Jim

If you do find excessive wear on the current drive side of the bull gear when comparing to the coast side as pointed out by Jim N. The trick is to swap both the bull pinions and bull gears to the opposite side of the tractor. Then going "forward" you are using the current coast side of the gears. In most cases especially parade and show use the gears will last a long time after being swapped. The photo is not as good as looking at it in person, but looking at the wear I see on those teeth if you have not looked closely at the bull pinion and inner axle bearings on that side I would strongly suggest it. It sounds like you at least will be swapping that carrier so you will be right at those bearing on the bull pinion anyway. Hope I'm not "preaching to the chior"
