the "knob" on the bottom of the dash for that valve may be set to single action instead of double acting cylinder. each valve on the hydrotouch bank should have a cap that sticks through the lower dash panel and can be set to single or double acting cylinders.

Unless someone has replaced the "Tel-a-depth" system with a standard spool valve on your friend's 460, the single/double acting setting is not the problem.

A 460 has a complicated set of linkages coming from the hitch, up underneath the left edge of the platform, to the hydraulic stack at the base of the steering column.

I have seen one or more of these linkages broken in the past. This will cause the hitch to move in one direction but not the other, because the position feedback isn't telling the valve where the hitch is.

James all the other guy have brought up good points. There is a check valve under the seat and if the hydraulic lines where hooked up reversed, I have seen this happen.
Do you know if he changed the lines or cylinder? could have switched the flow. oldiron29

If he played with the linkage to teledepth valve, he may very well have busted up differential gears in the valve by now. A picture in the operators manual will show you the proper position of the linkage arms and it has been known to have them installed backwards and inside out . Not good. If just hoses mixed up, he will be ok. Hitch should lift when pulling lever back on those models, which is opposite of the earlier 450's etc.
