M front wheel

I added another M to the fleet. I noticed that it has a clamp-on rim on the front. I have never seen that, thought they were all the 3 loop bolt on kind. It's a 1944 by the serial number. The rim is welded in the bead area much farther than I will have and I am going to find another 3 bolt wheel so flats are swappable. Just wondering how common the wedge/clamp rims are?

Pretty common on early tractors and less common toward end of production. Think the clamp type was available through production though. Some rims will have stops welded on each side of a clamp to keep rim from slipping on the wheel and cutting valve stem off.

i have seen both types on the farmall M. on the mccormick model W6 , the standard model used the clamp style till the super model in 1952 and 53. the super's used the loop and bolt style with the different hub. then in 1953 the change was made to the channel frame and 18" front tires.
