656 Hydro options?

656 came in today with hole in block/thrown rod. Has 263 and would wonder what diesel will transplant beside a 282? Wouldn't mind a 312 but would prefer a 414. Any thoughts?

IMHO,a 414 is a bit big.Even if it does bolt up,you will be changeing/modifying frame rails hood,linkages..........Not to mention that engine will destroy the drivetrain.Best to find a 282,310,312,358... Might be cheaper to just repair the 263/291.

To make a 312 or 360 fit, you need at minimum the front cover and bell housing adapter plate off a 666 or Hydro 70, which are rarer than hens' teeth.

Not the tractors themselves, but tractors sitting in salvage yards with the parts still on them. There weren't many of these models made to begin with in comparison to the 656, and most of 'em are still running. You'd basically have to knock a healthy tractor in the head to get the parts to fix a sick tractor.
