Should the diesel throttle lever be able to move its entire motion if the tractor is off?

And where are the contact points located which shut off the spark when the gas-to-diesel switch occurs?

Thanks

I CAN say that the diesel lever will not move full range with the decompression lever in gas. But, it sort of will...it will kick the decompression lever to diesel if you advance the throttle.

I CAN say that any other machine I have ran allows you to move the throttle full range without the engine running. But I can't say I have ever tried it on an MD.

You should have some movement of the throttle when off. This aids in bleeding air out of system when on gas side. As was mentioned once you go past a certain point it will trip the decompression lever out of gasoline position and over to diesel. On these engines all those levers ect are specifically set and if out of adjustment it will cause issues with starting and running. The IT SERVICE MANUAL #8 has all the adjustments for these systems and when adjusting it must be followed in order and all adjustments made.
