Good morning. My dad just gave me his 53 Super C. It's a pretty neat little tractor with wide front, wheel weights all the way
around, and fast hitch. The hydraulic box that is located under the gas tank leaks at a slow but steady rate. I am thinking about
tearing it apart this winter. Any tips on what to expect or go about this?
I have been a Case guy but want to get this thing fixed up nice.
Thanks!

You mean fix her up kinda like this one - it's a 52. I didn't go into the hydraulics - no need to. I'm getting her ready to ride about 60 miles next Saturday. I think I uploaded a photo - we'll see.

Wow!!! That's beautiful!! Did you do the restoration? It's a comfortable tractor to drive so your 60 mile ride should be a lot of fun.

She was remarkably original and in such good condition when I bought and relieved her from regular belly mowing duty that I just did what maintenance was necessary, some seals, gaskets, bearings here and there, added the fenders and wide front, cleaned her up and had a local shop paint her. The front axle was UPS'd half way across the country, but it has no extraneous welds nor bends. I especially like the rear tires!

Find a copy of the blue ribbon service manual for touch control system. It'll go step by step for servicing the touch control.

Just where is the leak if its around the two "boots" itis an easy fix as theres an o-ring on the plunger and can be changed without tearing the unit apart.

Ya, My tip is not to do a shotgun hydraulic over haul until you see where it's leaking. Pressure wash it real clean first, might just be an oring on a control valve which can be done on the tractor, although the o ring is something crazy like 8 bucks. I like wheels weights on all four.

Thank you all for the replies. I don't actually know the spot. I will wash it down and go from there. Hopefully that O ring will be it.

A pretty pristine looking out fit, nice job. Think mine was painted in about 1992 and showing some chips and scratches.

First, 53dc, I apologize for sort of hijacking your thread, but hopefully there are some things contributed here that can help you. The rear tires on mine are Firestone, Champion Ground Grip, 10-36, 4 ply. The codes on them are 044066G6 and 045193G6. Anybody able to decipher these codes and give us manufacturing dates for the tires? The fronts are Goodyear, Tractor, Nylon, Triple Rib, 5.00-16. All tires are in remarkable condition, no cracks but some typical usage-slip caused minor cuts on the tread bars and it appears none ever had calcium chloride. I suspect the tractor has been stored inside it's entire life for I found no rusted fasteners when working on it.

This is Red...he wants to stay in his work clothes. Also a 53 SC with High altitude pistons over 5k feet from the factory
