on the front of the frame rail that hooks to bolster has five holes and i noticed other tractors had four,,,,whats the 5th hole for...thanks dewy....

(guess) the 300 is longer from axle to axle than all other H, SH tractors, Possible hole to match that length to accomodate the older attachments. Jim

Others have the fifth hole. Bolster has threaded hole there for mounting attachments and on a 300 one of the front bolster weight mounting holes if equipped. Without attachments only 4 frame rail bolts are used for bolster mounting although the hole can also be used. On a 300 size bolster the fifth hole is 5/8 diameter coarse thread compared to 1/2 diameter the frame mount ones. Last replacement part bolster made by IH for a H through 350 was made like the 300 type.
