Oil type in Super A

Supera

New User
Hi, I bought a Super A few years ago and the Case dealer told me that I need sea30 non-detergent for it. But I just found that the engine as been rebuilt and upgraded to 2.0L (3-1/8" stepped piston). Can I use or should I use multi-grade oil in it?

Well back when it was built pretty much all oil was non-detergent so that is what was used.
Now days non-detergent oil and almost impossible to find. The oils we now have are by far so much better then what we once had so yes you can run a detergent oil with no problems.
My self I run O'Reilly's brand 20W-50 in ALL my engines. Be they tractor, car, truck, motorcycle or lawn mower

That's what i thought but the dealer told me something about gasket and seal that would deteriorate prematuraly. What do you think about that?

I would say as old as the tractor is it has been rebuilt once maybe several times and more than likely has detergent oil in it. Depending were you live and
climate you could use 10w-30 through 20w-50 detergent oil.

15w-40 diesel engine oil is what that old girl will LIKE. MUCH better oil than the 30 weight non-detergent called for in the owners manual.

Your dealer is trying to sell you a bill of good just so you buy from him or in other wards that is a bunch of hog wash

15/40 is fine.I run 1540 'fleet diesel' in all my (15) tractors, from F12/20 to the 1256.These tractors are all 'high hour'
machines. The 'new' MF1155 will get it too. I also run it in my gas combine;car;pickups;grain
truck;motorcycle/atv;lawnmower.....NEVER had an oil related failure. If fact,I have never lost an engine, either. One oil for all.
Keep it simple! The key is to change(oil/filters) regularly,on schedule. Keep it clean. As was said, todays oil is light years ahead of what was available when the tractor was new.

As what I can read here, I think you're right. Here in Canada, Case oil SAE 30 is $40 for a 3 liter jug. I won't pay that anymore. Thanks guys!!!

Oil is one of those topics where lots of folks have different views. I'll add mine. I use Chevron Delo 400, in all of
my tractors; Cubs on up to Super C. It is readily available for about 40 bucks a gallon. Have a look at the URL for
the PDS. Forty bucks a gallon, ouch! But, hey my old girls are 60+, some pushing 70, years old and they still work
hard. My Super A runs a 72" woods belly mower at full throttle for hours on end and a really good quality oil is worth
it. Your decision will be based on your own views, pocketbook and how you run a machine. The harder they work the
more they need good PM with quality materials.
