The original subject was "Re: IH 674 rebuild questions", see <a href="http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=1014644">here</a> for context.

Since my last reply, I have split the tractor, and removed the engine. I've removed everything but the front timing gears, and the cam shaft. And... the gears will still NOT turn. As noted in the previous post, the engine was seized. Only the idler gear, cam gear, and injector pump gear remain. The pump gear will move slightly, so it's one or both of the other two gears and associated bearings that must still be locked up. My engine service manual, and online references for my d239 began discussing how to remove the idler gear, but don't actually finish. Do I need a puller to remove the idler gear with the center bold removed? There are no holes in the gear, so I can only imagine the puller would grab the edge of the gear, but that's a tight fit to get behind the gear.

Any assistance is appreciated.
