Hey guys,
Just bought a front wheel hub/casting whatever you call it. But when I look in it, the bearing walls were mangledbent when it was removed. So... What the heck to do? Who sells new inserts or what ever the heck goes in there? Do I poundpull out the current insert? And where do I get new ones? I have to replace the current front casting because it cracked one of the 3 bolt holes out. So I figured I just needed a new casting. Can I pull out the existing bearing in my cracked casting and insert it into the replacement casting I bought?

Sounds like you are talking about the the bearing races. Yes , you can drive out your original races and use them in the new hub . Use a brass drift or a piece of water pipe so you don't chip it...

They are "tapered roller bearings". The part in the hub is the "cup" and the parts with the rollers that slides over the axle is the "cone".

If you clean the grease out of the old hub, typically you will see two notches in the cast iron hub behind each bearing cup 180? apart allowing the use of a brass "drift punch" to tap the cup out of the hub without damaging it.

If in fact they are "good", they can then be pressed into the replacement hub.

You will need a seal, as well.

I think he is talking about the grease retainers behind the bearing races. Not all hubs used them. They are just a thin metal disk installed to help retain the grease in the bearings instead of it flowing into the large hollow area in the hub. You can just straighten them out and use them, or throw them away, pack the bearing properly and forget about it.
