How to ID combine engine?

Found some parts. Unknown combine was scrapped but they saved the complete engine/radiator/pto assembly and the drive axle. I have no idea of the model or year but the engine is of the 263/301 variety.

Where would I look on the block for ID numbers and such. Would it give the displacement directly?

Look for a machined surface on (IIRC) the right had side of the block towards the "front" just below the head gasket area stamped with "C-301" and a serial number, for example.

On the 221/263/301 isn't the machined surface on the left side of the block just beside the oil filter. I know that is where it is on my 656 with the 263 engine. On the 113/123/135/146/153 engines the machined surface is in the position as you described.

Gosh, IDK as it's been a LONG time sine I owned old IH combines, but in general, there should be a machined surface within the realm of what has been described here on one side or the other stamped with info that's gonna "spill the beans" and tell us what it is!

Looked at it today. Machined pad on manifold side of block had 403c and 16984. This machine had the round radiator screen. Drive axle visible in third photo.
