Replacing amp gauge question

I have ordered a new Rockwell amp gauge for the 300, so my question is when I put it in, will I have to polarize the generator again since I will disconnect the battery? If I remember correctly, I will just touch the BAT. terminal on the regulator to the ARM. terminal with a jumper wire to polarize the generator.
The reason I ask this, is I have put in a new batteries before and never polarized the system after putting them in.

Not sure what a "Rockwell" Amp gauge is but polarizing the generator isn't needed unless the machine has sat a LONG while without being started OR the generator as been taken apart and OH'ed/dropped/abused.

On the other hand, polarizing (if done correctly) isn't gonna hurt anything!

AS typical, Bob and I agree. It's the Generator that gets polarized and replacing an ammeter shouldn't affect that. As long as the Cutout Relay (if stand alone or inside a VR) is working, when you shut the tractor down the gennys ARM post is disconnected from the ammeter and battery anyway.

Rockwell is one made in the USA, has the IH symbol and is suppose to be the manufacturer of the original gauges.

I bet it's Rochester not Rockwell.

Yeah, sorry it is a Rochester gauge. I friend of mine said to get this one and I thought it was a Rockwell. My mistake.
