706 no hydraulics

I have a 706 diesel that recently lost all hydraulics. No power steering, ta, remotes, lift arms or even pto. I drained oil (it came out very dirty and full of water) and removed filter, it looked practically plugged. I think mcv pump is toast, but that doesn't explain pto, or lift arms. looking for any advice before I start throwing parts at it.

If pto quit too all at the same time,
then the pto drive has stripped out in
the pressure plate. Time to split the
tractor and replace everything in the
bellhousing.

I would flush your system with some diesel fuel and let it drain out. Use IH Hytran only. Yes I know it's expensive. It has surprised me how well that stuff works. When I used to work at a IH dealership I sold lots of pumps and then they would come back saying it helped for awhile then quit.I then asked them what they were using for oil and 99% of the time it wasn't hytran.

Had a customer call he had a 560 he was raking hay with, after the tractor got warmed up (even worse on a hot day)the floor would get so hot he couldn't keep his feet on it and he would loose his hydraulics. Converted him to hytan and his problem went away. Another customer with a 656 brought in is steering pump, wanted to know if he could get a new one. He had it with remans because this would his third one in a year. Said he almost drove the tractor into the dam and scared him. Asked about his oil, quizzed him about the implement side and how it worked when cold. Said he bought x brand oil and after time he would loose implement side also after it warmed up. After some convincing he took his pump back and bought enough hytran to change oil. Couple weeks later he came in and told me that tractor never steered so good.

Have my own stories with hytran, dad always bought a universal oil from Cenex and we used it in everything. Always had problems with the 660 when the oil got warmed up. I took out the TA and clutch one day and had to send it to repair shop, they replaced the oil with hytran and after that it worked great. Did not realize at the time that was our problem. Now that I got you bored with my stories I highly recommend hytan.

One last thing, take a pan of your milky oil and put a gallon or so in a drain pan. Pour a 1/2 cup of hytran in and wait and watch what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions, I was curious about the pto drive, but I'm a little hesitant because of the order it happened. The steering gradually got worse over a couple days until it quit completely. Then I lost ta, then a while later the pto quit. Any thoughts?

Yup the spline in the Pressure plate is shot. There is a cover plate on the bottom pull it and with a light you should be able to see if the shaft turns.

Just wanted to follow up, and say thanks for all the help. When I took off the cover under the bell housing some of the rivets from the pressure plate fell out! Ended up that the rivets that hold the hub in the pressure plate sheared off. The splines were all in tact, got lucky their! New clutch and she's back running. Thanks again everybody!

Had similar problem with 806 recently. Replaced everything in the MCV and the MCV pump. Found out it was the filter getting plugged with water. Tractor was fine after fresh fluid change with hy-tran and new filter plus a good cleaning of the by-pass screen. It is amazing how much water settles out of the HY-Tran if you set it in a large clear container. The pickup for both pumps is through the same filter may explain the problem. Good luck.
