My 300 needs help

I have inherited a Farmall 300 row crop that came with the home that we bought. I have drained gas and cleaned sediment bowl. It runs great for about 15 to 20 minutes using brush hog then it acts like its out of fuel; pulling choke will keep it running but only for a few more minutes. It has to sit for only a few minutes and will start with no problems but same issue, runs only a short time. I am not a great mechanic but am open to suggestions. Ideas ???

Sounds like from your description it is a fuel delivery issue like your tank vent is plugged. Will run fine until a vacuum is achieved in your fuel tank from air not being allowed in through the fuel tank cap as fuel is being used. Make sure your fuel tank is venting by only filling the tank half full and leave your cap cracked open a slight amount and see if it runs longer before fuel starvation. I doubt your engine would run fine for 20 minutes if you had a fuel restriction between the tank and carb but that is another possibility if you are venting your tank as noted.
There are other possibilities like a bad coil or condenser which shorts out an gets hot and doesn't permit a good spark to the plugs which will required additional trouble shooting the electrical experts on this forum will most likely address.

Might just try turning your carb jets out 1/4 turn to see if that helps. Some times that has helped me as they get gummed up. Take pair pliers and tap above seditment bowl ans see if any crud comes out.

As said sounds like the tank vent is clogged up. When it starts to die on you reach up and open the gas cap and if it starts running right then you found the problem.

When it stops open drain plug in carb to see if theres fuel in the carb. Using something to catch fuel let it run for a bit.

If fuel delivery does not fix it, feel the coil when it stops. If it is way too hot to touch it is failing. If it has been converted to 12v, make sure it is a
coil for 12v and no external resistor. Or make sure it has the resistor. Jim

(quoted from post at 11:50:06 Thanks to all for your suggestions. I have loosened the gas cap previously thinking that it may have vapor locked but that has not helped. When I drained the gas and sediment bowl I also removed plug from the carburetor. I can not see a fuel filter, was one used and if so where would it be? I am going to try to mow again to check plug on carburetor for fuel when it stalls. Would having it rebuilt have any effect? THANKS again for your ideas. 08/07/16) Sounds like from your description it is a fuel delivery issue like your tank vent is plugged. If you just drained tank there still could be something in tank that is large enough to floats over hole and be sucked into it but when tractor stops it floats
away and tractor runs again until it floats over hole again. I had the same thing happen several week ago right in the middle of a tractor pull. I am putting
one of those screens they have that fit on top of sediment hole to stop that problem.

"Cleand sed.bowl"? Did you open up the fuel shut off when you had the bowl off to see if there was two good streams of fuel comeing out? Should be.

Those carb have a little plug on the bottom don't they. Take the little plug out, 3/8?? and let the water and crud come out. Just another guess. I have a 300U but it is up on the farm and I am like 52 miles away to look.

I will second what d Beatty posted is a probable cause. In case you don't know there is a screen in the fitting where fuel line connects to the carb. If you have minimal flow out of the carb fuel bowl bottom plug check that screen in the inlet fitting. Screw the fitting out of the carb pull the screen out and blow it out good with an air blower. There should also be a screen in the top of the sediment bowl as well, this should also be clean an un-damaged. The sediment bowl screen should catch most of the debris in the fuel. The screen in the carb is only a backup. Happy tractoring!
