Fluids for 1947 Farmall A

Please help me with your recommended fluids for the start-up of my 1947 Farmall A. I have read the owners manual and I know the capacities, but I need some brand names and specifics. The engine has been completely rebuilt. I live in NW Wisconsin. The tractor will be stored indoors unheated space. I have O'Reilly's, Farm and Fleet, and LM Supply available as retailers.

Thank You for your help, as always....

Too be honest with you anything you I would use any named brand oil or gear lube as close to what was recommended by the owner manual, I use 30HD weight motor oil, and 80/90 gear oil in any named brand, but I always use Case IH hytran in hydraulics. If I had bigger stuff and used more hydro fluid I "might think about using something else. But I think Hytran is worth the extra $$$

go by the manual and pick a brand name that you will feel comfortable using and use it. ON my 51 Super A, I use Pennzoil 30 Non Detergent. With the hydraulics I use International oil as recommended. On the gear lub (80-90) I just use what is available at my local parts house. Grease: general purpose. Pembroke

I use O'Reilly's brand 20W-50 in my BA which is half B half A but I am in Missouri so where your at I would use there 10W-40 or 5w-30. In the rear end I use UTF and never had any problems yet

15W-40 in the engine. 85W140 in the transmission will make the gears make less noise and won't hurt anything. Never use non detergent, particularly in a overhauled engine. The book was printed before detergent was made.

On a freshly rebuilt engine I would use 10W30, no reason to use 40W in an engine that now has tighter tolerances (hopefully). If it burns oil switch to 15W40.

(quoted from post at 12:45:45 07/30/16) not trying to cause trouble just asking a question for my own benefit. Why are you using detergent oil in the overhauled engine please? Thanks for info. Pembroke
. Why would you not be using detergent oil in the overhauled engine ?

The ONLY reason to use non-detergent oil is in a old engine that has never used detergent--because some say the detergent oil loosens some glop that damages the engine. Not sure I believe that -- but that is the only reason to use it in any engine.

Let's try this again - too much discussion re:detergent v. non-detergent oil.
Engine : brand and wt
Trans : brand and wt
Final drives : brand and wt
Gasoline : ethanol? Reg v. Premium

OK, simple version
Engine : brand and wt - Brand doesn't matter, 10-30 or 15W-40, either will work fine.
Trans : brand and wt - Brand doesn't matter, 80W-90 or 85W-140, either will work fine.
Final drives : brand and wt - Brand doesn't matter, 80W-90 or 85W-140, either will work fine.
Gasoline : ethanol? Reg v. Premium - Regular, 87 octane, with or without ethanol will work just fine. Premium or High Test is not necessary, these are low compression engines.

Any brand oil or grease (including the generics) that you use which meets modern lubrication standards will be satisfactory and will be vastly superior to any oil that was available when that tractor was built.
