10 or 12 ft. even 14 in some circumstances..3 bottom plow. Also depends on soil. some places,2 bottom;some places 4 bottom.

I agree with Delta, A good running M is 2-16s in clay and 3-16 in nice loam. a 10 foot disk is normal. Jim

under normal condition's those tractors are rated for pulling 10 ft. disc's. or a 3/16's plow. i spent enough time on a w6 which is the standard model version of the farmall m tractor, plowing and discing with 10 ft. equipment. that was in 3rd gear also. plowing stubble in 3rd gear was not even a load for that tractor.

Bass in your ground 3rd gear and 12-14ft, only reason I
say 12 is the small humps will make it pull a little
harder.

We farmed a sandy loam with an Farmall M and a John Deere A and pulled 2-16s and a 10 foot disk tandem with both of them.

In our soil, 3-12's will bring a strong M to its knees. In fact, moldboards are not popular at all in this area. I have a medium built 10ft. disk I can pull with an M. It has 16" blades. Set at full cut it's a real workout. In sandy loam an M should handle 10 or 12 ft just fine.

Dads M pulled a 3 x 14 Case plow in 3rd gear with no problems...It also pulled a 12 ft John Deere tandem drag
disk nicely in 3rd gear...

Remember that the width is only half the info. on a disc. You need to know how large diameter the disc is, how deep they are working, and in sod, plowed etc. before you can really compare and get much help from these answers.

If you are familiar with the older Farmalls you will know that most of these answers are correct.

What you can pull with M will depend on whats been done to it over the years. A stock M 2-16's and a 10 foot disk would be about normal. If you take a M and
put a 281 kit in it with carb. work and advance the timing as directions say along with LP manifold and 15.5-38's and you can pull 3-16's all day long and up to
a 14 ft. disk.

When I was a kid we had 2 Ms, a 48 and 51 I think, both had the engine up grades. In the Northern Il. hills one pulled a 2-16 in sod and the other 3-14 in corn stocks. Don't remember how big the disc was, it was a tandem with the fold down extensions on the rear gangs. After I left home they got a 1456 which looked like quite an upgrade from an M. I never did run it though.
