Front end loader slow.

Friend of mine has a 585 with a bucket on it. Front section is slow to lift. Rear section lifts just fine. On the Hyd valve assembly. There is a locknut with a smaller adjuster bolt on it.Any ideas before we head to a shop.

Hi, if that is on the left side of the loader hydraulic control valve, it is probably the hydraulic pressure relief valve.
Is the loader slow to both lift the arms and curl the bucket? Has the hydraulic filter been changed recently? Is there plenty of hydraulic fluid in the transmission. Put an extra 5 gallons in it and see if that helps. How is loader hydraulics connected, power beyond? Connected under the seat? Or connected to remote outlet?

Printed your post so I can check all that out. He says you have to rev up the engine to get the front to lift. Back section has a cutter on it. Lifts it with no problem.

I think if you tried to put an extra 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid in a 585, it would be running out your eyeballs! The extra 5 gallon trick only works on the large frame row crop tractors from the 706 on up.

Is this slowness a new thing, or has it always been like this?

See, a loader has two HUGE long cylinders to fill to lift it, vs. the 3pt hitch which has ONE small short cylinder. The loader will be slower, all other things being equal. It will be very slow with the tractor running at idle.

Without knowing how slow "slow" is, though, it's really tough to tell you its normal or if there's a problem. You can spend lots of money throwing parts at the tractor like pumps, o-rings, seals, gaskets, etc., and not really solve the problem.

Ideally you should get the hydraulic system pressure tested and flow rated. It might be worth a "house call" from a professional mechanic with the equipment to perform this work.

Check the filter then if it is running off the regular pump on the MCV it will never be a fast lifter. You are working with about a 12 GPM pump with about 3 GPM prioritized for steering, brakes lubrication of the transmission and such. This only leaves about 9 for the loader. If you want to improve the speed you need to ad the pump on the right side with it's own filter and lines. That will make the difference. It will also make a big difference in your pocketbook. to the tune of around 1000.0-2000.00 dollars 20years ago.
If you want more speed on the loader you could ad a PTO pump since it has IPTO it would runn all the time the PTO was on and speed things up. It would need to either have a separate resivour tank or plumbed into the tractor for the supply

I have seen this thing in operation. Before this problem came up.It used to go up pretty fast. Now you could take a nap before it gets up.I thought of
filter. But then the rear section works just fine like it always has.I will be going out to it in the morning.

My self I think they should just retire it. But it was the owners wife fathers tractor. So it is not going anywhere. I am not the smartest man on
tractors. Just trying to help a friend. Generators are more my field but at 66 I have done a little of everything.
