MTA Power steering.

MTA has CharLynn power steering. The pump that is driven off the fan belts is not in the best of shape.

Has anyone converted to the hydraulic pump for oil supply?

Will that work?

Or will I loose steering when activating the remotes?

Just checking out my options.

The critical piece you need is a priority valve that can supply ~3GPM to the priority circuit to run the pump.

If you just hook up the pump to the hydraulic system with a simple tee fitting, the power steering wont work unless you hold the hydraulic lever back to block off that leg of the hydraulic system. If you hook it up inline with the hydraulic valve(s) you will split the power steering motor case wide open the first time you pull the lever for a hydraulic remote.

Get a ps pump from an older GM p.up and mount it under the hood. I have done several of these and they work very good.

If you need pics. I will have my email open.

I use the live pump ahead of the distributor to run power steering on my SMTA. I use a priority valve in the system and both steerig and hydraulics work fine. As the other posting mentioned you could go to a wrecking yard and get a used hydraulic pump from a car that would fit probably easier than messing with priority valve and redoing hoses. A friend of mine has severl Ms with power steering most with the separate pump but a couple using the live pump, he said both work good.
