I was changing gears yesterday when the stick just popped right out of the tranny. I pushed it back in there and drove it to the shed but it's as if nothing is holding it in place any longer. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a quick remedy?

Look into a product called Sloppy shifter kit. (Ebay) there is a pin that wears out holding the shifter in, and when it wears out the shifter can pop out. There are (probably two expansion plugs in the tower that provide access. With the lever out, the plugs can be driven out with a punch. Jim

The lever sticks through a hemispherical shaped piece inside the top cover. Originally, the lever and hemispherical piece were one part. Yours has come apart. If you take the top cover off, the shifter mechanism can be disassembled from the bottom side. You either need a new shift lever or need to weld the broken part back together. If you get another lever, you need to get the same style (straight or bent).

How it fits together is reasonably obvious from the diagram in the parts catalog. The first piece off (with "H" shaped hole) is pressed in and needs to be pried out.

I got the parts manual. I see what your talking about
Jim. The piece that looks like a hand guard from a
sword on the lever separated from the shifter lever.
That piece and the shield, spring, and pin on top are
wha holds the shifter lever in the housing. Thanks.
