Distributor questions

I do have some slop in the H distributor, so might as well tighten that up.

It has a horizontal distributor; is that an IH or Delco?

I see YT has a new shaft for about 15 bucks; do those usually need replaced?

Thanks

The bad slop is defined as the ability to move the shaft toward the engine or away from the engine, or up or down. (in and out is not important in this regard) If you can see it move as you wiggle on it it will not work well at all. Bushing wear and shaft wear are both common. When you take it apart, there will be unworn shaft next to the bushing wear point. If you move this unworn spot into the bushing and it tightens up dramatically, the shaft replacement may be all that is needed. If it is still visibly loose, it will need a new bushing as well. Jim

If it is horizontal and has an IH logo it is IH. there are both Horiz and Vert delco, and a Prestolite or two in service.Jim

IH won't have a tag originally. Will have a casting number on housing like picture. Don't think YT sells the same shaft you may want. Would be more than $15 if they did. On round part of housing where the two clamps are is the distributor code stamped in. Letters or letter for original advance setup code, then month built number, then year built number. Under the big round part of shaft in picture is the shaft part that goes through bushing. Point cam slides over the end of shaft seen in picture and shaft or the bushings in the point cam can also be worn and have play. Disregard the picture with shaft in it, clicked the wrong one. Bottom part of shaft in picture does look like yours through bushing.
