1466 pops out of low range

So recently my 1466 started popping out of low range randomly. Seems to only do it on a hard pull (plow, disc....) and not very often. Does this sound like linkahe adjustment or something deeper?
Thanks

Deeper. Other then the adjustment to align the shifters in the shift quadrant everything is controlled under the range transmission shift cover. So my best guess is that you have either a broken detent spring or a broken shift roller or both . Soooooooo the top cover must come off to fix your problem . The 66 series is Sorta like the 06's but there is a few differences to the top cover . on the 66 you do not have to remove the hole deck plate just the center . If it has been updated to the spring loaded park loc you have to block up the park loc before you try and remove the cover , this can be done by placing a 1/2 inch nut standing on it's side under the linkage lever to hold it up on the top cover . The side cover on the left side has to come off because when the top cover come up it pulls the rev shift rod out of the rev shift fork. Like i said down the page on the 706 shifting problem if the hyd oil level is at the correct level when you remove the side cover you will loose about one gallon of oil so if you run over full then it is best to drain off the amount plus one gallon or you'll have one huge mess . If you have never been in one and I T manual and looking at the parts break down will give you some understanding as to what your getting into.

tractor vet,

I helped my dad pull the range cover off the 756 here a couple years ago to fix the detents, and I don't remember the reverse shifter fork being a problem. We certainly didn't pull the left side cover off to get everything back together, and the tractor shifts fine.

Were we lucky or stupid?

Both , i do this for two reasons (1) so i can check the rev shifting fork as i have found more then one broken . (2) they usually fall over and ya can not get the shift rod to go back in and on 06's i like to put the key in as i lower the top cover and shaft down just before i get to the shift fork and make sure the key goes in and NOT FALL out or get knocked out and find out you have to take EVERYTHING back apart a second time because then it is on my dime .

No but i can tell ya this it ain't going to be fun doing it and you are going to learn a bunch of new words before your done . And open station tractor is a piece of cake but the cab i just hope your a contortionist double jointed and come equiped with two right arms and hands.

1) Loop a chain over cab and and through door openings 2) make a loop w/heavy wire and run through hi/low shift arm pin hole 3)run a rope over chain and tie to wire loop 4) Pull/use rope to help control removal and installation of cover. Still a nasty job but at least your nuts won't hang below your knees when finished.
