Cub won't start

Hey guys. I've got a 1948 Farmall cub that ran perfectly until winter. This spring I couldn't get it to start at all. So far I've cleaned the carburetor, ran a new fuel line, replaced the manifold, gaskets, and exhaust pipe, put on a new distributor cap, condenser, and rotary button, and static timed it. I'm getting a good spark from the plugs, but it still won't start. Plug wires are 1-3-4-2. Every now and then it will sputter like it wants to start, but never does. Any ideas?

Put gasoline in a squirt oil can. Pull the plugs and put one squirt into each hole. Put the plugs back in and try to start it. if it starts and then stops, you
know it is fuel related. If it does the same thing, possible spark related issues. Some plugs will fire in open air, but not under compression. Jim

When was the last time you serviced the air cleaner?? It could be full of water/mud which can cause problems. Also have you pulled the air intake tube off and held you hand on the carb?? Do that will check to see if it has good suction. You should both feel a good suction and also get you hand covered with gas.

Have you tried the hand over the air intake of the carb and if yes what did it do??

You could also have stuck valve' s , I would check
compression , this will also help diagnose the problem.

Ity ran when you parked it those thinhs dont go bad just setting around. Sounds like a stuck valve. I would remove the side pate behind the carb to see if all the valves are going up and down. You said you have spark at the plugs. Iworked on oone like that and after removing side plate found a couple valves stuck open Squirted some wd-40 in there and got them to move then it started rite up and ran. The tractor had set for a long time.

Have you removed all the plugs to see if you have compression on all cycls. Just putting your thumb over the hole will be a quick check Cub should have around 90 if its in good shape.
