Farmall M Tire Pressure

Just switched from Firestone F151s (like new) size, 14.9x38 on 11 inch rims to Firestone SATs (35% tread, road worn) size, 16.9x38 on 16 inch rims on my Farmall M puller...

Haven't really got them to hook really good yet, a lot of spinning out... Started out at 10 psi then 9, then 8.

So, based on the above do they need more or less air pressure?

Thanks

Well have you tried to ADD more pressure . Now not sayen that this will help you , but i run 16.9x38 on a 16 inch rim on a S/MTA i was having that problem and i let a friend pull it while i watched what was going on with the tires while pulling dead weight and like you at 10 PSI with 60 Hp. we were spinning out , just could not get ahold of the track. Well what i discovered was that at the LOW pressure the center of the tire was buckling up and under and the outside the tread was folding back . There were a lot of tractors that day so there was a long time between hooks . SOOOooo we went back to the semi and fired it up and pumped the tires UP to 16 psi , reset the hitch hight and went at it again . NOW the Stones did indeed grab hold of the track and did not buckle under the load and did not spin out but instead now it was bring the ft end up and we had to move two hundred up to the nose to keep it down so as not to loose hitch hight and walked away with first place .

And OH one more thing here if you took them 14.9's and took a set of 12 inch rims and split the rims and added in a 4 inch band then mounted the 14.9's on that rim you may find that they will work better then the 16.9's due to the shorter tire hight unless your making more pony power then i am with my S/MTA as there are times that i have had to grab the stick because i ran out of power with the 16.9s , now on a soft track they help but on a hard track i think they hurt you as you loose pounds per sq.in. It is all about traction and HORSE POWER . BUT the horse power is the key and having a engine that has the bottom end power that you can drag down to where you can count the fan blades as they turn and pull back on the go lever and just walk on away is the way to win .

Thanks for the replies. I knew about the checking of the marks after the pull, will check.

I pull on a variety of track conditions and I think that complicates it even more, as different tracks will cause different results...
