Bolts on an M platform

I finally bought a brake lock assist lever for my M. I believe a platform bolt has to come out. I don't know if its ever been out since 1943 when it was put in.Any tricks to know to avoid twisting it off.

Just wiggle back and forth.Sometimes a bit of penetrateing oil in the 'dish' will soak down enough to help.

Have you tried it? Maybe just work it back and forth a few times.

I recently took the top off the trans on a '41 H, and they all came loose easily with a 1/2" drive breaker bar. In fact, if I'd tried I probably could have taken them out with a 1/2" drive air ratchet and I had reason to believe they'd never been out before.

The seat bolts were a whole different story. They took some muscle and a few prayers.

You might consider what I did on my H; I welded a 1-inch x 2-inch vertical piece of flat bar to the brake lock lever, the one you have to lift with fingers. I welded it right above the pivot point. Sticks up 2 inches. Very simple, I just use my heel to press it forward to lock brakes as I push the pedals. It releases by gravity or sometimes just stomp the aft end of the pivot lever to release. Simple.

Believe it or not, those things were available for purchase at one time. My dad had one on his H. Niether dad or I had much luck making it work, so it got replaced with the other version where you pull a rod attached to the headlight bar.

Dad and I had long arms, I guess. We just reached down and pulled it up with our finger....................a long, long, long time ago.
