More on an H....

Per prior threads, I had an input pilot bearing fail on an H. Besides replacing that bearing, I disassembled the entire trans and found several of the rest of the bearings worn enough to merit replacing.

Now I find the differential side bearings are also worn. After pulling the brakes, what comes next on getting at the diff bearings?

BTW, our local Case IH dealer so far has either had parts in stock or could order them with delivery in a couple of days. They even had the big gasket for the top cover in stock.

Thanks for any advice.

I haven't taken an H down that far but I believe it is just like an M.

You'll need to remove the bull gears first or at least get them off of the axles and moved back. With them out of the way you can unbolt the bull pinion bearing cage for each side and slide it out. There are a couple of extra threaded holes that you can run a bolt into and help pull them out. There will be shims between each cage and the main case. If you need to pry, be careful not to booger up those shims. They are part of the ring and pinion setup and you'll want to put the same ones back on the same side.

Before the bearing cages come out though, secure the differential with a strap or so something so it won't just fall down.

Take the bearings to a bearing supply store and they will match then up for you at a whole lot less than the dealer will charge. Been there, done that. Same goes for seals.
