IH 240 Power Steering Cylinder

Looking for the steering cylinder for my 240, it is the one that is between the steering wheel and the linkage to the gear. Mine is jerky and sometimes very hard to move. I have just finished reinstalling the worm gear. There was some wear on the worm gear, as it only uses 25% of the gear, I indexed the steering arm 1/4 turn and drilled & tapped the arm for a 1/2-13 dog point screw the lines up with the gear shaft Woodruff keyway.

As that was not the problem, it must be the cylinder.
Somebody welded the hyd fittings to the cylinder body & I am looking for a decent used assy before disassembling mine as I suspect some damage inside. Also I cannot replace the existing hoses!

Have not been able locate one in the used tractor yards, I know used ones go for $375 to $400....I am OK with that plus shipping.

From reading your thread and the terminology you are using it appears you do not have the factory optional power steering system installed on your tractor and some type of engineering marvel created by someone other then IHC engineers. I do have a Farmall 240 and a complete IH power steering system for my tractor but haven't installed it yet but have researched it thoroughly. The power steering system for a Farmall or International 240 is shown in the TC-53 Parts Catalog on page 377 and in other areas of the catalog. The IH system for the 240 tractors has a hydraulic driven component (part no. 373069R92) placed between the steering wheel and the balance of the steering linkage that runs down and forward to the steering gear in the front. There are no hoses associated with this system with the hydraulic power being provided by a unique hydraulic control unit below the fuel tank (most likely you have a bank of 3 or 4 units somewhat similar in appearance connected together with long bolts) and a manifold (a welded tube assembly consisting of two tubes, fittings and mounting plate) between a couple of the control units to the noted hydraulic unit below the steering wheel. If you have a hydraulic cylinder and hoses as part of your system you have some type of non-IHC system on your tractor. It would certainly be interesting to see some photos of what you are dealing with for a better understanding of your dilemma, Hal.

I did find a good used unit and you are correct it has small fittings not hoses.
As mine has been messed with, I really would appreciate a picture of the hyd lines and where they are connected to the unit.
My 240 had all the optional stuff, Rockshaft, fast hitch, Hydratouch, and Traction Control but most of the parts are long gone so there may have been additional hyd hoses attached that are no longer there.
Thanks
