'46 M Farmall Leaking Hydraulic and Engine Oil

Have a '46 M Farmall that is leaking hydraulic fluid and possibily engine oil on the underside between engine and transmission.

Some seals, but not all, were replaced on the hydraulic pump; this has decreased the hydraulic leak. Also, the seal/gasket was replaced on the engine crankshaft; not sure if engine oil is still leaking, because it takes a quart of oil subsequent to pulling a disc harrow 4 to 5 hours.

Question is, where can "all" the replacement seals for the hydraulic pump and possibily other engine seals be found; or, what should be done to correct these leaks. NEED HELP BADDD!! THANKS

I took out three seals out of my SM this past Friday. The PTO shaft seal, the counter shaft seal, and the transmission input shaft seal. I cleaned the old seals off so I could read the parts numbers stamped into them. I called NAPA and they could order two of them. I called the local Case/IH parts man and he was able to order them all. Another source, a local bearing distributor was able to find two of them. I ended up ordering one from NAPA, and two from the bearing distributor because they saved me about 40%.

Tis,
The oil pan gasket, rocker cover gasket and lifter cover gasket could all be contributing to oil loss as well as worn rings and valve guides. Replacing a rear main seal on the crank MAY stop oil from leaking there, but there is no guarantee unless the crank itself is in good shape where the seal rides. Another possibility is that the seals in the front of the transmission case need replacing too. Some folks use Hy-tran in the transmission as well as the hydraulics as this is what it was designed for (the Hy-tran, that is). This will sometimes cause seals to leak that would hold back 90EP gear lube. I would start by cleaning everything up where the leaks show and see if you can determine exactly what is leaking and go from there.

Good luck,
Phil

Tis; I have been using Hytran in my M transmission for several years with no trouble. Works better in the cold . On a post in here somewhere someone used transdraulic fluid in a 504 and it must have softened the seals or something as he said it quit leaking oil. Mabe in the Ferguson discussion board. Good luck.
