I bought a 560 with a bad Diesel engine. I have a d 282 in an old trencher machine in good shape. I've heard the crank will not work correctly on the tractor and will have to be swapped??? The trencher is a barber Greene ta 35. It looks like they just took an ih power unit and bolted it to the trencher. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Why wouldn't the crank work unless there is no hole for a pilot bushing If thats the reason all it will require is removing the crank and machining a hole for pilot

It's not as simple as just taking the crank from one engine and putting it in the other. Is the crank from your "bad" engine even any good? If the crank is any good you need it machined and new bearings to do it "right."

That said, do you even need to swap the crank? The only way to know is to dig into it and see. You've got both the tractor and the trencher. Unless you have a use for the trencher, you have nothing to lose by spending a few hours doing some investigative surgery.

I understand that you can't just swap cranks, I've overhauled many tractor engines. The trencher itself is junk but the engine was overhauled recently . The tractor is in good shape but a bad motor beyond fixing. Yes I heard that the power units did not have the pilot bushing hole. Just curious before I year it down
