706 Manifold Gasket Advice Needed

Found a post in the archives about two different types of manifold gaskets for the 706 6 cyl engine. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what brand and type is better and how to tell if I need the early or late style gasket. This machine is a '68 with C263 gas engine. Should I get grade 8 bolts for manifold to head? thanks

You can use either gasket but have to use same kind that was on it or you will have to split the manifold. The thin gasket has just steel ribbed on exhaust but on intake ports it has material added to both sides of gasket for better retention and of course that makes that part thicker. I very much prefer the metal exhaust and embossed material on intake. Lot of those gas engine running around with mixed up gaskets to manifolds thus problems. I normally take manifold apart anyway to clean out pre heating stove around intake and get the heat riser working properly also.
