RPM differences on a 656?

I have a 1970 656 Diesel hear drive that I'm not sure is throttling up enough. Tractor data says it's either 1800 or 2300 rpms later on. How would you raise the engine rpms if it needed to be done? Tractor had the engine rebuilt right before I bought it so I'm still kindve new to it. Thanks

656 had two different engines. 282(early),or 310(Late) ci diesel. or one of 3 possible gas engines alao. 263/291301. Determine exactly which engine you have. OR...1800 is 540PTO rated speed. 2300 is wide open/full throttle.(This most likely the case.)Look at the tach. Since you are "new" and 'clueless'(no offence intended),you need a book(owners manual) Order one asap.

A 656 diesel uses a D-282 only, and a C-263 gasoline or LP only. The gear drive tractor is rated at 1800 rpm's with high idle of 1965 diesel, 1980 gasoline. The hydrostatic drive is rated at 2100 rpm' and high idle of 2500 rpm. Of course you very well may be off a few rpms's at high idle , no big deal but no gear drive ever came from the factory with the higher rpms like a hydrostatic. Lot of misinformation floating around out there.
