885 lost power steering

Spraying yesterday with this tractor and lost power steering. The hytran level is OK and the 3 pH raises OK. Where do I begin to look? I would not recommend this series tractors to anyone.

Well with out more info and not seeing the tractor i could send you on a wild goose chase and deplete your check book , But since you do not like the tractor and would not recommend it to anyone i would be will to take that piece of junk off your hands for the cost of fixing the steering .
But any way i don't suppose your tel tale lite works so you can not tell me it it is lit or not and due to the cost of a bulb it might put you in financial runes . with a working teltale light working you would know if you lost MCV pressure . Then you would have given me more info to go on . You did not say if you were going up and down hills because if you were going down a hill and even though you thought that the fluid level was good to go and it worked fine on the flat or up hill there could be a crack in the suction tube in the rear end or the seal ring could be OLD and hard not sealing vary well and by going down hill ALL the oil runs forward and the level in the pick up area get really low really fast and you can loose steering , T/A and brakes first . Then there could be a blowen gskt of o/ring in the MCV that just figured that it was time to die , or there could be a tinny little shavings that stuck the flow divider and shut off fluid flow to the steering side , Or maybe the MCV pump took a dump , maybe the key sheared on the MCV pump , maybe the pump just plum wore out , maybe one of the springs in the MCV broke or flatten out and no longer holding the vale where it is suppose to work. But if you don't want the tractor i'll be glad to take it off your hands because as i see it this is only a four maybe five beer job .

Funny you should say that. I follow a British Farming Forum too and one of the most recent topics of conversation has been how bad The IH 885 was!

Hi from archives,

Power Steering not working:

Hi, does the hitch work when the steering does not work? May be the oil strainer is full of dirt. I've seen a problem like this once, the steering will turn on one side, then will not turn on the other. When you turn the steering on both sides, it has a small play to pull or push the cylinder valve. The end of the valve(thread end) has a tendency to wear and not open all the way. Put some drops of weld on the threaded end and the trouble is fixed. Bernard le m?cano

Could also by stuck priority valve in MCV. Sometimes dead heading the remote hydraulic outlet will shock the system enough to free the priority valve.

Hope this helps
