front fan pulley on A

the fan started to hit the fan pulley. took it apart and the pulley seems to be able to slide on the crank. supposedly this is
supposed to be a press fit. Wonder if i could have someone a (machine shop) drill a couple of holes in the v part of the
pulley and use two set screws to hold the pulley so it wont run out and interfere with the fan. any advise wouldbe great.

You are talking the pulley on the crankshaft correct. Is there a set screw now or hole where one was. You cannot remove that pulley until removing the steering sector and radiator some of those engines had a set screw but most did not and they all were press fit. Anyhow you will need to block up the tractor so you can remove the steering sector so the pulley can be removed if it fits loose and sloppy you have a big problem.

Assuming you mean in the bottom of the pulley, yes they should be 90 degres to each other. 1/4-20 would work. No need for a machine shop. Use a 13/64ths or #7 drill bit to drill through the pulley and just into the crank to make a depression for the tip of a crown point set screw. I would use locktite thread locker on the screws. Jim

The fan pulley is made so as to be how you tighten the fan belt. The pulley is such that it has slides with bolts in them and you move one part to make the pulley narrower so that the belt then rides up high on the pulley yo tighten up the belt

How will that way get threads all the way thru the hub. The set screw should tighten on the key in the crank at least thats what i have found. The raised boss on the crank pulley is where the set screw is located when used.

Yes, I have drilled and tapped through the raised boss and put set screws in fan pulleys. I put them in to tighten down on the key, just as Gene Bender describes. Not difficult and it has always worked quite well for me.

I was think of the A/C B and C fan set up. The A/B Farmall has that set up where you need a thin end open end wrench the loosen so tighten the belt. I mess with to many tractor so some time I get one mixed up with another.
