farmall h turbo questions

i am building a farmall h up to put a turbo on it. i have rebuilt the motor with domed pistons and overbore sleeves. how much will these pistons raise the compression? the dome is flat and is about 1/4'' tall . would the tractor run fine with these and a 8 psi turbo or should i get low compression pistons or a water to air intercooler?

Either the intercooler or the lower compression pistons. Either should work. I do think the pistons would be cheaper route If haviing to buy the parts.

I would find a distillate head and use flat top pistons if I wanted to build an H with a turbo. Low compression is critical.

If you are trying to get more power you have to have more room to stuff in more air/fuel mixture to get a bigger boom . High compression pistons decrease the amount of space you have to pack in air and fuel and negate the benefit of a turbo. Good for naturally aspirated does not necessarily work for turbocharged engine. You also don't want a huge turbo , as small as possible to minimize lag and maximize low end power. Look at the newer GTDI auto engines , some of those turbos have smaller impellers than your old Hoover sweeper and they spool up almost instantly. You have to look at the whole package.

I would never turbocharge a domed engine, either go high compression, or standard. I would have gone standard pistons on my MH44 EFI and turbocharged it if I had it to do over.

What head do you have for it? Distilate or
gas? I turbo'd an M..flat top pistons and
Distilate head, I then changed to a LP head.
Now it's making power. Distilate head gave
75psi compression, LP head makes 155psi
compression. Turbo puts 15 psi boost. I
modified a 80's dodge distributor to get
electronic ignition.
