Hi all;
I've hung the big 706 parts to dry while I wait for the Red Paint to arrive. So I'm working on the little 504.
It it also relatively new to me; it had been parked for a while. I power washed the thing, did a tune-up (points, condenser, etc.) I started it up and there was what can best be described as some sort of squeal (I can't remember if it was there before, or if it was that bad). I BELIEVE that to be a water pump.
However, the throttle had always had to be held at the high rpm levels; some spring tension kept pulling it back to about midway or lower. Today, I can't get it much off of idle, and the throttle lever doesn't have much effect at all. The linkage to the carburetor only moves a little.
I'm thinking that the governor has failed somehow. Perhaps that is/was the squeal as well (comes from the same area so I can't tell for sure).
Ideas?? Advice?? If it's the governor, can they be rebuilt??
Thanks,
Jim
