986 hydraulic output

Does anyone know what the Hydraulic output on the IH 986 is? I am running a Deere 567 round baler. When I am closing the gate, the belts are pinching. The manual says if the tractor output is less than 6.5 gpm. I then need to install an orfice on the baler pump.

Depends on the year of the tractor and if it has open center or closed center hydraulics. At any rate, it's far above the 6.5 threshold; more
like 17 gpm.

Should be a minimum of 12GPM, up to 17GPM.

That is assuming the pump is 100%.

I am not a Deere expert but Deeres use a closed center hyd. system where as the early 86's used and open center system . The only time i have run into a problem usen a piece of Deere equipment behind a Binder was a Deere Hydra push manure spreader and there ya had to get a special valve from deere to make it work on a open center system. . If your 86 is and older one then it is a open center system and the stock pump should be 13 GPM when new , and even if it is some what good it should be putting out around 10 GPM . The only way to know for sure what it is doing is to have it flow rated on a Flow rater at operating temp.
