Farmall HM cycle mower help

I have Farmall HM cycle mower on my H. family owned since new. I need to put new cutter teeth on it and I found a box of them in my dads barn but I am 4 short. I need 24 and I have 20. I also need rivets. Where can I get the parts I need to replace them? I have the bar out and I am ready to do the work. Does anyone have a description of how to easily replace the cutting bar parts? Are the rivets easily hammered? how hard of job is this and where can I get the 4 teeth and rivets? I do have a box of rivets I bought from a farmall cub are they the same ones?

Thanks

The "teeth" are called sickle sections, because what you have is a sickle bar mower.

Sickle sections are a standard size for mowers, so you can get them at any farm machinery dealer and many ag/farm supply stores. If you have a Tractor Supply nearby, they also carry sections and rivets. Take one of the new ones with you to match up the type.

The rivets are also a standard size. As long as they're not too long they will work. They should only protrude through far enough

Rivets are soft and can be pounded over cold.

I replaced all of the sections on a JD #5 mower last year and used the bolts they now make for the job instead of rivets. If I was doing it over, I'd use rivets.

to remove the sections (teeth), it is very helpful if you have a vise. place the sections inside the vise jaws and loosely close the jaws and then
hit the back of the sections with a hammer.

when you rivet the sections, make sure that the section is laying down on the bar.
if someone nearby has done this, it would be helpful, if they would help for a few minutes.

good luck

Ask around your ag friends and see if you can find someone with a Johnson Sickle Servicer, or if not, consider getting one yourself if you are going to be using that sickle mower a lot. It will make replacing sections quick and easy.

Smith tool....Dad had one somewhere that he used on the swather. Did not have to remove the sickle all the time. Easy to use too. Model R3030.

Aside from what the other guys below said,
when you flip that cutter bar up, please
take note of where your fingers are. When I
was about 12 or so years old, I tried to
"help" dad by putting up the HM sickle bar
and unhooking it from the tractor. When I
flipped up the bar, I wasn't paying
attention and it slid down on my left index
finger. It had brand new sections and I
never felt it had taken my finger off
through the middle joint until I was walking
away from it. Yeah I got it sewed back on,
and I can bend it if I need to, but due to
the tendon and joint damage, it just points
straight out

Thank you for the advice my dad has warned me of the same thing. My grandfather bought this new with his 1948 H. He is lo g gone now and my dad is in his early 80's and I have been trying to learn as much I can while he is here with me I want to learn how to use this stuff from him he grew up on it now my son is the same age as he was when he started using this stuff new!
