I am trying to date an F-12, The first I have plate # 41592 Block 89080 witch make this a 1935.
Now the second I have block # 131801 with no tag. Being the 35' has a difference of 47488 should I be thinking to take about 47488 off the block # on the second one???
Thanks oldiron29

oldiron, are there any casting dates on the block or the rear end? Reason I ask is that engines can be swapped, but rear ends usually are the originals (note I said "usually"). While it won't be exact, it will get you close.

Tom, Never had much luck with casting codes till after 39'
It has some F-14 parts like tall steering post, long brake handles.
But no breather on the valve cover, It does have an F stamped on the flat over the PTO
I am thinking it is a 37' that had an upgrade at some point.
Not pretty at all, rough F-12 but it runs and drives.
Tag or no tag I like to know the date of my tractors. oldiron29

The block and tag should match exactly or the motor has been changed. Only F series that doesn't is the F30, as blocks were taken 2 directions off the line for the W30. The F stamp above the pto is the transmission code, and is standard speeds. One of my F12's has the 14 field upgrade and one doesn't, can't really use that to date them.

OK, I new what the F on the tranny was for.
I thought that I had heard that F-12 and F-14 numbers didn't match because they were some many models that used the same engine. I am just finding that these F-12 were cobled together before I got them. oldiron29

Not trying to rain on your parade, but and F-12 was the
nearest no tractor ever built. Rather have a mule any day.

F-20's 12's and 14's had block numbers that match the chassis number. F-30's didn't because their engines were built in a different factory.

your engine isn't original in that 12

Thats funny, every tractor IH made after the F12 was based on its design. The fixed drop boxes of the 20/30 were dropped in favor of the long axle design of the 12, the full length frame rails of the 20/30 were replaced by the short rails attached to the front of the transmission from the 12, the full pressure lubed engine was developed in the 12. If you stand behind an H,M up to the 450 the rear housing actually has the same shape and look of the F12. But then again They only sold 155,000 of them.

well, opinions are like your posterior.......everybody has one, and the other guy's usually stinks..........

The F-12 will outwork 1, 2, 3, or more mules every day, any day, ALL day. However, lots of folks don't like 'em and that is their prerogative not to. Personally, I think it is easier carrying fuel to an F12 than it is carrying water and feed to a mule, then having to carry the manure away. But then, people think I am crazy too.
