Re: Farmall H Belly Pump

Due to casting irregularities you may need to remove the all thread and wiggle or tilt unit. If all the pipes are out the only other thing to do is push in on the inner control shaft to make sure the inner lever is keeping the shaft all the way in. After you remove the outer control lever the only way to get the control shaft out is to remove the rear cover on unit and go inside reservoir. Don't know if that can be done in the housing because that wasn't the intended way to service unit and it would be almost impossible to get it back in the correct place.

What I found was a piece of 3/4 pipe nipple screwed into the top fill-pipe location, then a marchant 3/4 coupling, then another nipple, then another coupling, repeat and repeat.... install item by item as the pump lowers, and it really stablilizes the thing. Remove item by item as you raise it backup.

A flat brass or aluminum strip will for sure hold the shaft. The coupling comes off Lefty Loosy. Using a 1/2" flat steel bar and putting solid tension on the coupler , then striking the bar with a one pound hammer (wear gloves) will get it off pronto. It just requires shock to get it broken loose. Taking it apart will allow you to get at the gears, but then they can be damaged by what ever you use to hold them, and they will not be centered in the housing and bearings. A good 1/2" impact air wrench and a tool made from a junk socket and a 1/2" square Key stock will also work. Jim
