706 shifter and other levers

My SIL is painting a 706, during sandblasting small parts, the black on the shifter and other levers would not come off, had to use grinder. Does anyone know what type of material was used? Pete

Vinyl dipped coating. Found on handles of pliers and insulated tools. The part is heated to ~250 degrees then dipped into the liquid material. The heat polymerizes the vinyl onto the lever. There are many compounds used for this process. Usually needs to be ground )or chemically removed because it is rubbery enough to bounce the abrasive "sand". Jim
