Farmall 230 Tach

Did the Farmall 230 come with a tachometer? Mine has what appears to be a mount and the distributor housing looks to have a tach cable connector on it. Assuming it does, where can I get a replacement tach?

I believe it was an option.

There doesn't appear to be an aftermarket tachometer specifically for the 230, so you'll need to be creative. A Farmall 240 is the next newer model, and mechanically almost identical under the sheet metal. There are some aftermarket 240 tachometers out there for around $60.

A 240 tachometer will probably have to be close enough. It won't have quite the right ground speeds and the mark for PTO speed might not be right, but it will read accurate RPMs and count engine hours.

Better check again on the 240 the only thing close would be the block and everything else is quite different from a 230.

There was a tachometer option for the Farmall 230 and is shown on page 375 of the TC-53B Parts Catalog which also has the Farmall 200, 240 and International 240 contained in the same catalog. This specific page of the catalog pertains to the Farmall 230 only. The total option package part no. is 370195R91 which includes all the components for an operational tachometer for a 230 tractor. The part no. of the tachometer by itself is 370200R91. There is no installation detail which shows it installed on the tractor but the tachometer for a Super C tractor is clearly shown in the Operator's Manual for that model and most likely a Farmall 230 Operator's Manual would also show it's mounted location. It is held in place with a 370203R1 bracket and a 357870R91 Clamp according to the noted additional parts along with the balance of the necessary items for a complete functional system for the Farmall 230, Hal.
