alternator on an A tractor

I was wondering if anyone has put an alternator on an A where the generator goes. I'm wondering about its exposure to weather. I'm done with generators and regulators of any voltage. Its a working tractor and I want the charging system to work also. Tractor has a mag so I want to charge the battery and run lights.

I've done one and will be changing over a "C" in the next month . It's not a problem . You can even reuse the gen. bracket.Shoot me an email , I 'll show you some pix ....

Have a look at Charlieu website, www.Charliesrepair.com
Has alternator to fit pretty much any old IH tractor, also has wiring diagrams on the site also.

I put a Delco 6 volt alternator on a Farmall B and changed the bottom mount and used the original top by just tweaking it a little. The alternator sets where the old generator and might stick out about 1" farther than generator.

Guys - thanks for the replies. I've put alternators on other tractors like my H and M which are under the hood so my only concern on the A was it sticking out in the weather.

When I did mine I used the same belt and mounts. It has to be somewhat close to the same position as the generator that way. I used the Hitachi alternator which is a tad smaller than the 10si. My small tractors are under the lean-to so I've never worried much about it.
