What a BEAST!

As some o you may know I bought a 450D last fall that ran on 4 cylinders. I replaced the sleeve in #4 and the rings as well. The rest of the engine appeared to be a low hour rebuild and was near perfect. I hooked up to the 412 semi mount plow and plowed for about 10 hrs yesterday. I used about 15 gallons of fuel so I am extremely pleased that it is a miser on fuel just as my 400D is. The 400D struggled a little in heavier ground with the 412 plow. The 450D runs away with it. In light soil I made it all the way to 4th gear as I was testing the capabilities of the ole girl. In heavy clay loam it pulled in second beautifully. I am ever impressed with this tractor! What a BEAST!

You will continue to love it. Idle on Diesel for 8 minutes if turning soil with it, then shut it off. Don't do the run on gasoline thing (bogus). Jim

After working it hard, I would let it idle for a half hour at least(might take a pint of fuel). Never had a cracked head doing this.

It takes me a minimum of 15 min on the road to get back to the farm from any of my ground. I run about half throttle and still let it idle for about 10 min before I shut it down. I do not shut off on gas. I do not believe there is any benefit to it. They run cooler on diesel than they do on gas. I have been running my 400D since 1986. I appreciate the words of wisdom and I am truly in love with this 450D. What a gal! It is a dream to plow with for sure!

I would think the 450 would be a good horse, but the Nebraska test always made it look bad, it only had 3 or more HP, than a 400, it never made sense to me. So is a 412 a 4x14 ?

The model 412 is a semi mount plow that was available in 14" and 16". I am going today to pick up a model 312 plow that is 16". The 311/411 plows were full mount plows.

I ran a 450 D for five years and loved it . Ya started it and let it warm up before putting it to work and one thing you NEVER want to do is STALL it in the field and now be able to get it restarted at once and you NEVER just brought it in and shut it down with out letting the temp gauge go all the way back to COLD and NEVER switch back to gas while shutting down The only problem i had with that tractor was the cam bushing in the injection pump and the seal on the lift pump. I pulled 4x14 I H 540 semi mounts and a 37 13.5 disc and LOTS AND LOTS for tractor pulls , just for skeeter control you understand as with the pump opened up she would stand a foot of fire out the pipe and smoke as well as any Super Stocker and WIN .

I have the receipt from the guy I bought it from showing that the pump was rebuilt and "tuned" about 10 hrs before it dropped the #4 cylinder sleeve. It fogs really well for skeeters. But barely lugs at all in tough spots. maybe I will see what it does at the pulls....
