MW pro clutch on Farmall M - unable to adjust

Greetings,

I recently installed an M&w live power clutch on a farmall m. Unfortunately I can't seem to get it set right. I have about a 1/4 turn difference between too loose and the tractor barely able to move itself and a quarter turn tighter and NO slip at all . The manual speaks of 30 to 40 pounds of force to make engagement but I barely notice and resistance in the action of the handle.

What am I missing? Is something worn that needs replaced?

Thanking you in advance for your thoughts,

Sounds like the 'star' lock 'washer' is missing all but one of it's 'fingers'.It's right under the round 'nut' with 4 notches. Also take the engaugeing cam apart to see if all the balls are there, orjustplain worn out... A dissasembly/good cleaning/inspection may be in order

We just installed it so I know it is clean. If the balls are worn are there replacements available?

The star washer is in place with all tabs. My problem is that I just can't find a spot where the lever requires force to engage.

I would hope you checked all parts for wear before installing so you must have put something in wrong or you are missing a part.

Do you have a manual for it?

Yes, we had the M&w manual but may not have the experience to look at a part and know if it is worn.

How many threads are out past the adjusting nut???

The 'ramps' have a step in em to hold engagement. The ball are 3/8" steel gearshift detent balls Get these at a truck parts place.Maybe NAPA will have em.However, those balls are also used in many (ball)bearings.Tear an old bearing apart. Can you go less than 1/4 turn n the nut. Try a more 'minute' adjustment. If that doesnt work, some thing is wrong. Worn;missing part; put together wrong............
