560 air intake

I v noticed by looking at many 560ds I noticed that there air intakes are different lengths coming of out hood does that mean anything by the length of the air intake?

my thought was the higher the less dust being sucked into the air cleaner cup. but i dont really think it makes much difference working in a dusty field.

Different lengths, or different pre-cleaners?

I've seen standard "mushroom cap" style and others with a "turbo" pre-cleaner.
