ballast resistor wiring

New coil and ballast resistor. Took off all wiring and cut ends for new coil and didn't write down where they went. Could some one tell me where on the ballast resistor the hot wire from the key goes or does it go on the coil + side. Then there are two white wires connected together with two ends to be connected in two different areas. I think they are coming from starter solenoid. Would one be on the coil and the other end on the ballast. I do have a 12v reading on the red wire when switch is on. The new coil has a new wire from one end of the ballast to the + side of the coil. I did connect a wire from - side of coil to distributor. Is this right. Or does the wire from the distributor go to the ballast on opposite side of the wire already there from the coil. Thanks in advance, what a mixup.

Not knowing what tractor you have here is a possibility.

Switched side of ignition switch to one side of resistor. Resistor does not care which side.

Assuming 12 volt negative ground other side of resistor to + on coil. -- on coil to side terminal on distributor.

There may be a wire from "I" small terminal on start solenoid. If so, it could be a starting bypass to bypass the resistor when starting to give hotter spark. It would go from I on solenoid to one end of the wire going from resistor to coil +

The wire coming from the starter solenoid has two ends that were hooked up before. They are both white wires. They were both hooked to the ballast. Any reasons why. They are only hot when starting I believe. the new coil has a wire already hooked to one end of the ballast and connected to the plus side of the coil. Do I connect the starter wires there or directly to the coil

My previous explanation should be correct but change "I" terminal to "R" terminal. Some solenoids have I for Ignition, others R for Resistor.

Update on the ballast resistor. All is working fine.
After hooking everything up thanks to RVirgil KS wiring diagram. I am a happy camper. Thanks very much for the quick response on helping get this tractor back running. Next time I will take a picture or draw a diagram before taking all the wires off.
