Farmall C Carb Issue

Hi guys, I have a C that has a zenith multi fuel carb on it that was running fine. Then started running rough and i
had to use full choke to keep it going and it loped and had no power like it was starving for fuel. I figured junk in
the carb. I took it off and cleaned everything and put an inline filter for the grav fed system. It ran a bit then
started doing the same thing. I have taken in off and cleaned it again and cleaned the little filter in the fuel line
thats in the brass 90 degree fitting going into the side of the carb and cleaned out the gas tank. Its still doing
it. I took off the gas cap to make sure its not a stopped up gas cap. Still doing it. Gas flows from the sediment
bowl and the inline fuel filter stays full. When it starts sputtering i can use full carb to keep it running but just
barely. Let it die and wait a minute and tap on the side of the carb and it will fire up and run for say 20 seconds
or a minute and start doing it again. The float is free and seems to be moving ok. Could something odd be going on
with the needle valve? I was careful not to alter the bend on the float. Any ideas? Its got to be the carb or is
there something else im missing. thanks

If fuel flows in a good soda straw stream from the carb drain for a minute filling a pint in that time, it could be an issue with ignition. Bad condensers, and pitted points can do it. As can a worn shaft bushing in the dist. If you can wiggle the dist shaft side to side up or down it is worn out. Jim

f the float bowl has a horizontal drain plug in it, remove it then remove the main jet located in the passage behind it with a screwdriver. More likely than not you will find it partially plugged.

#1 that in line filter will not help you any and if any thing it will hurt you. The sediment bowl if it has the screen it should is a very good filter system and has worked for decades on thousands or tractor.
That all said fire it up and run it till you start having problems. The moment you have that problem check your spark and make sure you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap at all plug wires. If you have a good spark then
Make sure you have a good steady flow of gas lime Jim said.
Also when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner??

Sorry but I didn't see it has a multi fuel carb on it. It still feels like a fuel delivery issue inside the carb- possibly the main discharge jet? Did you take the carb completely apart and carefully inspect each item for being clear?

If the inline filters get plugged the sediment screen is not catching all the fines just change the filter and go again sooner or later all the fines in the tank will be flushed out. Those filters arent expensive and those fines will not do the carb any good. His tank probably has rust in the top areas of the tank and gas splasshing around will sure find their way into the line. A good cleaning of the tank will probably cure the problem. I made a tumbler and use busted pieces of glass and the stuff that comes out is terrible dust and fines and the sharp pieces of glass are rounded smooth but the process does work been using those littlesee thru filters and they sure do their job so dont knock them

I do not an can not agree with you. I have thrown at least 30 in line filters away and in doing so the tractor has since ran just fine. I have found in line filters to be troublesome and not worth having

You must be in the minority as i see them on many many tractors sure when they plug they are full of fines just let one dry out the tap it and see the fines fall out.

Plus I have sen 3 times where the in line filter has cause a totaled tractor due to a fire. I'll not use them and I will NEVER recommend them
