International 2510b/574 heavy duty clutch

My 2510b industrial loader tractor is going to need a clutch one of these days, it was slipping but I readjusted the pedal for the proper play, but I think its only a matter of time before it needs a more permanent solution.

I see some people talk about a heavy duty clutch for the 574, which I belive is the same as in my 2500b. As this is a loader tractor, I think this clutch is warranted. It appears it has 9 springs vs 6 in the standard clutch.

Has anyone had experience with these hd clutches? Is there a good source to getthem from? I have found them online, but not from anyplace I have done business with before.

Don't know about the heavy duty clutch,
but I am puzzled by your logic, clutch
was out of adjustment thus slipping and
now adjusted to work properly. Great,
that's the purpose of adjustment. Yes
someday it will need a clutch, every
tractor does, but if it's working
properly I wouldn't be worried it may
last for years.

I usually have Clutch Dynamics in Lansing
build my clutches. They are cheaper than any
store bought assembled one, and hand built
to whatever specs you want. They can build a
clutch for anything you need. They built one
for a Galion grader I had, I believe it was
a 16" clutch. It had a Ferrari disc, which
was still available but not cost effective,
so they built me a 10 pad ceramic disc. I
had them build a ceramic disc for one of my
pickups, he told me I'd tear up the tranny
before I'd slip that clutch. He wasn't
kidding lol. I got it stuck and got mad and
hammered away at it until I had taken every
gear out of that transmission. Sure it
wouldn't move anymore, but the clutch never
slipped.

Hi Michigan Iron, usually when you have to adjust the clutch on the 74/84 series tractors, the clutch is about to start
slipping.
I have heard farmers complain about the 9 spring pressure plate as requiring a "very strong left leg".

Here a couple archived articles on 574 clutch replacement:

I remember years ago a fitter from The local IH dealer here telling me that when they took one of those tractors in to have a new clutch fitted they always installed the heavy duty clutch anyway.

I wonder if it already has the heavy duty clutch because it's an industrial tractor.

Here's something to think about: Reagan was probably President the last time the clutch on that tractor was changed. Whatever's in it has lasted a long long time despite being badly adjusted. There's no reason to think replacing like for like will not last just as long, especially if you don't let the free play get out of hand like it was.

Thanks for the replys, and the links. As this is an industrial, it has a frame that the loader and front axle mount on, so it isn't even a full split to change the clutch, just pull the rad and engine, so it may be best to just change it.
